Before and during Abigail Adams’s life, the idea of separate spheres was in place.
Women Sphere:
-Took place mainly in the home

Also frequently spent time at church and visiting at other women's houses

The home was also where women went through schooling

Spent most of their time taking care of the home and children

Most girls did not receive an education
Men Sphere:
-Took place out of the home
-Most men worked in industry, commerce, and politics
-Young boys spent time with their fathers so that they could grow up to be like them
-Some boys with wealthier families received great educations which sometimes included college
